Food Service Standards

Zero Tolerance
for
Pests in Food Service.

The FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and Virginia health department regulations require food service establishments to maintain documented pest control programs. A single cockroach, rodent dropping, or fly infestation can result in a failed health inspection, a mandatory closure, and the kind of online reviews that follow a restaurant for years.

US Pest Control designs food service programs with zero-tolerance in mind — not just eliminating active pests, but proactively preventing the conditions that allow pests to establish in the first place. Every visit is documented and every service report is formatted for health department review.

🍽️

Zero-Tolerance Protocols

Our food service programs are designed around the principle that no pest activity is acceptable. We identify and address conducive conditions proactively — not reactively after pests are already visible.

📋

Health Department Ready Documentation

Written service reports after every visit include products used (with EPA registration numbers), areas treated, pest activity observed, and corrective action recommendations — formatted for health inspector review.

Service on Your Schedule
We schedule service outside of operating hours — early morning before opening or late evening after closing — to minimize disruption to your staff and customers.

🔍

Kitchen Equipment Focus

German cockroaches and fruit flies establish themselves in the harborage areas around and beneath commercial kitchen equipment. Our food service program specifically targets these hard-to-reach areas other programs miss.

What We Treat

Common Food Service Pest Threats.

🪳

German Cockroaches

The #1 food service pest in Richmond. Breed rapidly in warm, moist harborage areas beneath and behind commercial equipment. Requires professional gel bait — not repellent sprays.

🐭

Rodents

Mice and rats contaminate food, damage equipment, and trigger immediate health code violations. Full exclusion work to seal entry points is essential — not just trapping.

🪰

Flies

Fruit flies, drain flies, and house flies are common in food service environments. Treatment targets breeding sources — drains, floor drains, and organic debris accumulation.

🐜

Ants

Odorous house ants and other species are attracted to food residue and moisture. Perimeter and harborage treatment prevents ants from establishing trails into food prep areas.

🕷️

Stored Product Pests

Pantry moths, weevils, and grain beetles can infest dry goods storage areas. Regular inspection and targeted treatment protects food inventory.

📋

Drain Treatment

Floor drains are a primary breeding site for drain flies and cockroaches. Regular drain maintenance treatment is included in our food service programs.

Common Questions

Restaurant Pest Control

FAQs.

How often should a restaurant have pest control service?

For most Richmond-area food service establishments, monthly service is the industry standard and what most health departments expect to see in your pest control records. High-volume or high-risk operations — 24-hour establishments, operations with active pest history — may benefit from bi-weekly service.

What documentation do you provide for health inspections?

We provide written service reports after every visit including: date of service, technician name and license number, areas inspected and treated, pest activity observed, products applied with EPA registration numbers, and any corrective action recommendations. These are formatted for health department review and available on request.

Can you service our restaurant without closing?

We schedule food service accounts outside of operating hours — typically early morning before opening or late evening after closing. For certain exterior-only treatments, daytime service may be possible. We design the schedule around your operation.

What do you do if we fail a health inspection for pests?

Call us immediately — 804-788-0800. We treat a failed inspection as an emergency and will prioritize your account for same-day or next-day emergency service. We will provide documentation of the service for your follow-up inspection.

Are your products safe to use in food service environments?

Yes. We use EPA-registered products specifically approved for use in food service environments and apply them according to all label directions. Products are applied when the facility is not in service and we advise on re-entry times for each product used.
