More Than a Job

Your Work Has a Real Purpose.

Pest management is a skilled profession that directly protects public health. Rodents contaminate environments and damage structures. Cockroaches contribute to allergens in food-preparation areas. Termites cause serious structural damage to homes. Stinging insects create dangerous situations for families and workers.

That's where our technicians come in. Some days you're preventing a problem before a homeowner ever notices it. Other days you're helping a family that hasn't been comfortable in their own home for weeks. Either way, the work matters.

We're a company that takes that seriously — and we want people who do too..

Protect Families

Help homeowners feel safe and comfortable in their own homes again.

Protect Businesses

Keep food service, hospitality, and commercial clients compliant and pest-free.

Protect Public Health

Pest management is a recognized public health profession — your work prevents contamination and disease.

Protect Property

Termite and rodent control protects the largest investment most families will ever make.

Document Your Work

Every visit is photographed and recorded — your work leaves a permanent record of protection.

Build Real Skills

Licensing credentials and field expertise are a career-long investment that pays dividends.

$54K–$75K+ annual earning potential

Full-Time

Richmond, VA

40 Hours Guaranteed

Full-Time

Your earning potential doesn't stop at your starting wage. At US Pest Control, technicians have ongoing opportunities to increase their income through annual wage growth, overtime, commissions, performance bonuses, licensing incentives, and career advancement.

We believe employees who grow with the company should be rewarded for it. There is no predetermined ceiling on what a long-term, high-performing technician can earn as they continue developing their skills, taking on more responsibility, and advancing within the company.

The Role

What a Service Technician Actually Does.

This isn't a job where you stand in one place for eight hours. You'll spend most of your day independently servicing customers throughout your assigned route — inspecting, treating, documenting, and communicating. Here's what that looks like in practice.

Inspect

Inspect properties for pest activity, entry points, and conducive conditions

Inspect attics, crawl spaces, basements, kitchens, bathrooms, and exterior

Identify signs of termites, rodents, and wood-destroying insects

Note conditions that may contribute to future pest activity

Treat

Perform exterior perimeter barrier treatments at every visit

Apply gel baits in crack and crevice harborage areas

Set and monitor rodent bait stations and traps

Remove spider webs and accessible wasp nests

Treat stinging insect nests using proper safety protocols

Perform specialized treatments after training and licensing

Document & Communicate

Photograph all treatment areas at every visit

Complete digital service reports before leaving the property

Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to customers

Educate customers on conditions that contribute to pest activity

Keep your assigned vehicle clean, organized, and properly stocked

Manage your route efficiently without compromising quality

Our Standard

What a Great

Service Visit Looks Like.

We don't want technicians who spray and go. Every customer is trusting us to take care of their home or business. This is what we expect a great visit to look like — every time.

01

Arrive on Time

Professional uniform, prepared, within the scheduled window.

02

Greet & Ask

Ask the customer if they've noticed any recent activity.

03

Inspect First

Thorough inspection before any product is applied.

04

Treat Precisely

Right product, right place, right rate. Not a blanket spray.

05

Document

Photos and service report completed before leaving the property.

06

Educate

Customer understands what was done and what to expect next.

“The goal isn't ‘Treatment completed.’ The goal is: this customer feels confident that someone knowledgeable is protecting their property.”

— Our Service Standard

Who Fits Here

Character Matters More Than Experience.

We can teach pest identification. We can teach application technique. We can help someone earn licenses. It's much harder to teach someone to care about the quality of their work. The people who do well here tend to share these qualities.

Dependable

Customers and teammates count on you. Consistent attendance and punctuality aren't optional here — they're the foundation everything else is built on.

Self-Motivated

Most of your day is spent independently. We need people who work hard and make good decisions when nobody is watching.

Detail-Oriented

The best technicians notice the foundation gap, the damaged vent screen, the moisture stain that someone else walks right past. Those details matter.

Good with People

You don't need to be a salesperson. You do need to explain problems clearly, listen well, and make customers feel like they're in good hands.

Curious

The best pest professionals want to understand why pests are there and how to prevent them from coming back — not just treat the symptom.

Coachable

Pest control is a technical field. There will always be something new to learn. The professionals who grow fastest are the ones who stay open to it.

This Role May Not Be Right For You If…

  • You strongly prefer working indoors at a desk
  • You aren't comfortable entering crawl spaces or attics
  • You dislike interacting with customers
  • You aren't comfortable working outdoors through Virginia summers and winters
  • You need constant supervision to stay on task
  • You have ongoing issues with punctuality or attendance
  • You tend to rush through work rather than do it thoroughly
  • You aren't comfortable being held accountable for your route and results

We're being direct here because we think you deserve to know what this job actually involves before you apply. There are hot days, dirty crawl spaces, and customers who are frustrated about a pest problem. But for the right person, there's also real independence, variety, stability, and the satisfaction of solving real problems every day. A lot of our technicians genuinely enjoy this work.

No Experience Required

You Don't Need Pest Control Experience to Start Here.

We hire for attitude, reliability, and potential. Previous pest control experience is valued but not required. Some of our best technicians came from completely different careers. What matters most is whether you're dependable, coachable, and willing to learn.

If you've worked in a trade or a field service role, you likely already have habits that carry directly into this work. We'll teach you everything specific to pest control.

We Train You

You're Not Expected to Figure It Out Alone.

New technicians go through a structured training period before being expected to manage a route independently. You'll work alongside experienced team members in the field, learning our systems, standards, and technical fundamentals in real conditions — not just a classroom.

Training is ongoing, not just orientation. We invest in our people because a more capable technician is better for our customers and better for the company.

Pest Identification

Learn to identify common Virginia pests, their biology, behavior, and where they harbor.

Inspection Techniques

Where pests hide, how they enter structures, and what conditions allow them to thrive.

Treatment Methods

Proper product selection, application techniques, and treatment strategies for each pest type.

Product Knowledge

What we're applying, how it works, and how to follow label requirements correctly.

Customer Communication

How to explain findings, present recommendations, and build customer confidence.

Technology & Documentation

The software and systems used to manage routes, document services, and communicate with customers.

Safety

PPE, pesticide handling, equipment use, vehicle safety, and regulatory requirements.

Licensing & Credentials

Who We Are

We're Small. We're Proud of It.

We're not going to pretend US Pest Control is a national corporation. We're a locally owned, family-operated company that has been protecting Central Virginia since 1991. And we think there are real advantages to that.

Here, people know your name. Good work gets noticed by the people who make decisions. Ideas from technicians can actually reach leadership — because there aren't seven layers of management in between. When the company improves, you can see your contribution to it.

We're not trying to be a national chain. We're trying to be the best locally owned pest control company in Central Virginia. If that's the kind of place you want to work, we'd like to talk with you.

Before You Apply

Common Questions Answered.

  • Do I need pest control experience to apply?

Not necessarily. We value experience but we're willing to train the right person who demonstrates reliability, professionalism, and a strong work ethic. A number of our technicians came from completely different fields.

  • Is this a full-time position?

Yes. Our technician positions are built around a 40-hour guaranteed workweek. Overtime opportunities are available depending on workload and season.

  • Do I get a company vehicle?

Eligible route technicians are assigned a company service vehicle and may qualify to take it home. That means less wear on your personal vehicle and lower commuting costs.

  • Is fuel included?

Yes. All fuel required for your assigned service route is covered by the company.

  • Will I work alone?

Much of your day is spent independently — which most technicians find to be one of the best parts of the job. New employees go through a full training period with ride-along time before managing a route solo.

  • Is the work physically demanding?

It can be. Technicians walk properties, carry equipment, work outdoors in all seasons, and may need to enter crawl spaces or attics. It's active work — not desk work.

  • Do I have to go into crawl spaces?

Yes, depending on the service. Crawl spaces, basements, and attics are part of routine inspection and treatment work. We train you properly before you're expected to do this independently.

  • Is there a sales component?

We aren't looking for aggressive salespeople. We do expect technicians to recognize legitimate problems and educate customers about solutions. Commission is available when those recommendations result in additional services.

  • Can I advance?

Yes. We have a clear six-level technician career path and are developing future field trainers and operations leaders. Advancement is based on performance, licensing, and demonstrated ability over time.

  • How quickly can my pay increase?

Compensation grows with performance, licensing, and advancement through technician levels. Technicians who earn VA 7A and 7B licenses unlock higher pay tiers and expanded service responsibilities.

  • What does the hiring process look like?

Submit your application below. We review every application and reach out within 2–3 business days. Qualified applicants are invited for a phone call, followed by an in-person meeting and a paid ride-along with an experienced technician.

  • What should I know before the ride-along?

Wear comfortable, work-appropriate clothing and closed-toe shoes. We'll cover everything else. The ride-along is as much a chance for you to see whether this career fits you as it is for us to evaluate you.
